Digital Nomad Visa

Concept of the Digital Nomad Visa
  • Aimed at workers intending to work remotely for their company from Spain.
  • The visa validity period will not exceed one year.
  • Those foreign citizens regularly residing in Spain or those who have entered the country thanks to a Digital Nomad Visa may apply for a residence permit, allowing them to work remotely from Spain for up to three years.
  • The Digital Nomad Visa does not require the previous obtainment of a residence permit. Interested applicants must thus apply simultaneously for a Foreigner Identification Number (NIE, in Spanish) which will be added to the applicant’s visa file.

"Checklist"

  • Copy of passport or travel document (all the pages).
  • Evidence of having paid the corresponding fee (the payment is normally done on the day of the appointment in cash).
  • Application form duly completed and signed by the applicant.
  • Document accrediting a minimum 3-months old working or professional relationship with a foreign company or group of companies. The applicant must submit a certificate issued by the company showing:
    • In the case of an employee, their seniority in the company as well as the company’s explicit permit allowing the employee to work remotely.
    • In the case of an entrepreneur, the length of the contractual relationship, as well as the terms and conditions under which remote work will be performed.
  • Document accrediting the real and continued economic activity of the company or group of companies, through a certificate issued by the Commercial Register (or any analogous institution in the country) showing the company’s incorporation date and its type of activity.
  • In the case of an employee, a letter from the company allowing remote work from Spain.
  • In the case of an entrepreneur, a document accrediting the terms and conditions under which the remote work will be performed.
  • Supporting documents accrediting the existence of enough financial means to cover the expenses of the applicant and members of their family, according to the following amounts:
    • Visa holders and residence authorizations: an amount which monthly accounts for 200% of the Spanish minimum wage.
    • Family units of two people, including the applicant and the reunited person: at least 75% of the Spanish minimum wage. An additional 25% of the Spanish minimum wage will be required for every additional member.
    The ownership, availability and legality of funds must be accredited. To justify the afore-mentioned amounts, any of the following documents may be employed:
    • Work contract.
    • Binding job offer.
    • A commercial contract in the case of a professional relationship.
  • Certificate of criminal record issued by the government of all the countries where the applicant has resided for the last two years, as well as an affidavit stating the absence of any criminal offence in the last five years (duly legalized by the corresponding Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA)).
  • Document accrediting a public or private health insurance signed with an insurance company allowed to operate in Spain, valid for the entire duration of the stay. Travel insurance documents are not considered valid.
  • Affidavit showing the commitment to comply with all obligations related to Social Security matters, before the beginning of the professional or working activity. In the event of non-coverage by means of an international standard for the coordination of social security systems and paid employment, proof of the registration of the company in social security must be presented.
  • Copy of University degree or documentation accrediting a minimum of three years of professional experience.
  • Those who are not passport holders of Kenya, Uganda or Somalia must provide proof of residence in Kenya, Uganda or Somalia the validity of which should extend to at least 30 days beyond the date of expiry of the visa (original and one photocopy).
  • All the documents should be presented in original, and at times, we require photocopies of some documents, in English, or with a Spanish translation.
  • Visa applications must be additionally accompanied by all required documents in compliance with visa regulations.
  • If foreign public documents are presented, it will be required that said documents be legalized through diplomatic channels or, where appropriate, apostilled.
  • An interview at the Embassy may be required.
  • The Consular Section reserves the right to request any complementary documentation it considers necessary.

The mere submission of the listed documents does not guarantee the issuance of a visa. Individual assessments are made in every case.

Note: We regret we cannot accept photographs that do not meet these requirements

Please provide Two recent photograph (not more than 6 months old) of yourself, which should not have been used previously in the passport. The photograph should be in colour and:

  • Two recent colour passports, size of photographs(45mm x 35mm) full face and taken against a white background so that features are distinguishable and contrast against the background.
  • It must be clear and show the face focused.
  • Printed on normal photographic paper (camera print).
  • Full face, non-smiling [without sunglasses, a hat/cap or other head covering, unless the applicant wears such items because of their religious belief or ethnic background]
  • Please stick the Photograph on the Visa Application Form.
