Nuns – meaning those who have already presented their religious vows- and members of
male religious congregations, seminarians, priests and members of other recognized
religious groups included in the Register of the Ministry of Justice, who wish to
enter a Monastery or a Convent in Spain or perform religious activities there, must
apply for a residence visa with exemption of the work permit.

- Application form, hand-written or typed, in CAPITAL LETTERS,
duly completed and signed
- One recent photograph, 4 x 5 cm, in colour but on a plain white
background without shadows showing full front face, and both ears, preferably
without spectacles, and with no hat nor scarf nor sunglasses.
- Passport or travel document, valid for a minimum of 3 months
after expiry of the visa.
- Previous passports if any
- Kenyan ID card, Kenyan resident permit, or re-entry stamp in
passport of Non-Kenyan valid minimum 3 months after expiry of the visa.
- Duly legalized Medical Certificate laboratory results attached
stating that : “This medical certificate guarantees that Mr./Mrs./Ms. XXXX does
not suffer from any disease that may constitute a serious danger to public
health as stated in the International Health Regulations of 2005”. (Original and
a copy). This certificate must first be authenticated by the Medical
Practitioners’ Board and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kenya.
- Valid Good Conduct Certificate, from the Country of origin or
from the Countries in which the applicant has resided during the previous 5
years. This certificate must be legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in
Kenya.
- Academic Certificates Legalized by the Ministry of Education as
well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Letter from the Bishop and Congregation in Spain and Kenya
- Letter from Ministerio de Justicia
- If the applicant has taken his/her final vows this certificate will be a
confirmation that they are registered members of the community.
- If the applicant is has not taken his/her final vows this certificate
will be a confirmation that the Congregation is registered in Spain.
- Certificado de Verificación de Libertad Religiosa: a
certificate which the Congregation in Spain should apply for in the Subdirección
General de Libertad Religiosa.
- Application for residence authorization with work permit
exemption (Solicitud autorización residencia con excepción permiso
de trabajo) (Form EX09)
- Fill in the form Modelo 790-052 and make the requisite payment
of Kshs 1,421 for 2023 in cash on the day of the appointment at the Embassy.
- Proof of payment of the residence authorization application fee with the
mechanical validation that accredits the payment.
The Consular Section reserves the right to request any additional documents and
information it may consider necessary.
GRANTING OF THE VISA
The decision for granting the work visa corresponds to the Spanish Authorities that
will inform this Consular Section of its decision to grant or deny the visa, within
three months.
The applicant should personally collect his passport within a maximum of one month
from the date this Embassy communicates the decision regarding the granting of the
visa.
Note: We regret we cannot accept photographs that do not meet these requirements
Please provide one recent photograph (not more than 6 months old) of yourself, which should not have been used
previously in the passport. The photograph should be in colour and:
- Two recent colour passports, size of photographs(45mm x 35mm) full face and taken against a white background so
that features are distinguishable and contrast against the background.
- It must be clear and show the face focused.
- Printed on normal photographic paper (camera print).
- Full face, non-smiling [without sunglasses, a hat/cap or other head covering, unless the applicant wears such
items because of their religious belief or ethnic background]
- Please stick the Photograph on the Visa Application Form.
