Concept of the Student Visa
- Foreseen stay in Spain of more than 90 days. For any stay less than 90 days,
applicants should apply for a Schengen visa.
- General studies or further education in a full time program at an Officially
Recognized Educational Institution in Spain leading to the awarding of a degree
or a certificate. The institution has to be duly registered by the relevant
authorities in Spain and it is the responsibility of the student to ascertain
that the institution is recognized and registered.
- Activities pertaining to research or training, without prejudice regarding the
special arrangements for researchers.
- Participation in a Student Exchange Program in relation to a Secondary or High
School Program at a recognized Educational or Scientific Centre.
- Non – labour practices in an agency, public or private entity.
- Volunteer service within a program pursuing objectives of general interest.
- Admission in Sports Academies. If the activity in the Sports Academy does not
satisfy the fulltime requirement, the applicant has to enrol say in a Spanish
language school in addition to the said academy.

- From the applicant:
- Application form duly completed and signed.
- A coloured passport-size photograph not more than six months old, in
colour, white background, and full front face, with no hat nor scarf,
nor sunglasses.
- Passport or travel document valid for the entire period of stay
(original and photocopy of the relevant pages).
- Previous passports, if a new passport has been issued within the last 3
years.
- Those who are not passport holders of Kenya, or Uganda ,must provide
proof of residence in Kenya or Uganda, the validity of which should
extend to at least 30 days beyond the date of expiry of the visa.
(Original and one photocopy).
- Documents accrediting the knowledge of the Spanish language, when
required.
- Documents certifying the availability of accommodation in Spain, for the
entire period of study.
- Individual International Medical Insurance (minimum cover of €30,000),
covering all costs of arising as a result of emergency medical
assistance, emergency hospitalization or medical repatriation and valid
for the entire period of stay and all Schengen countries as per the list
accompanying this document.
- Supporting documents accrediting the financial means to cover the
studies, accommodation and living expenses, during the entire stay (The
minimum amount is 900 Euros per month), through:
- Scholarships or economic grants. The nature and quantity of
assistance should be indicated and if the applicant will receive
a stipend.
- Employment Certificate, job description, and salary of the
sponsor.
- Certified personal Bank statement of the applicant or of the
sponsor covering the expenses, and origin of the same.
- Bank/Credit Card statements showing account movements over the
last 3 months, fixed deposits/title deeds, as proof of solvency.
- In the case of ownership of a Company: Articles of Association,
bank statements, and latest Tax declaration.
- Sponsors should demonstrate proof of relationship to the
applicant.
- Sponsors should demonstrate their intention to financially
support the applicant through an affidavit, stamped by a Notary
and duly legalized.
For Studies lasting more than six months:
- Valid Good Conduct Certificate, from the Country of origin or
from the Countries in which the applicant has resided during the
previous 5 years; this is applicable for persons over the age of
18 yrs., (original - duly legalized).
- Current Medical Certificate, with results of laboratory tests
attached, stating the following “This medical certificate
guarantees that Mr./Mrs./Ms. XXXX does not suffer from any
disease that may constitute a serious danger to public health as
stated in the International Health Regulations of 2005”.
(Original – duly legalized).
- From the centre of studies:
- Document accrediting admission or confirmed pre-registration as a
student or researcher, in an officially recognized public or private
institution.
- Evidence of the study plan or research approved duration, schedule,
language requirements and total cost of the course.
- Additional documentation in the case of a minor:
- Prior approval from the Sub delegate or Delegate of the Government in
Autonomous Communities, where the minor will reside, applied for by the
person who will be responsible in Spain, for the said minor.
- Power of Attorney from the Parents or Legal Guardians, drawn up through
a Notary Public, authorizing the minor to travel to Spain, indicating
the course to be undertaken, the Centre, and the proposed duration of
the course.
- Birth Certificate – duly legalized
Spouses and Children below 18 years accompanying the applicant for the
duration of his/her studies. These should meet our normal visa
requirements as well as provide proof of relationship to the applicant either
through Marriage or Birth certificates as the case may apply.
Please Note:
- All the documents should be presented in original, and at times we require
photocopies of some documents, in English, or with a legalized Spanish
translation.
- An interview at the Embassy may be required.
- The Consular Section reserves the right to request any complementary
documentation it considers necessary.
Important Notice:
The mere submission of the listed documents does not guarantee the issuance of a
visa. Individual assessments are made in every case.
The visa must be collected personally within a period of two months from the date of
notification of authorization. Within one month of arrival in Spain, the student
should apply for a Student Card from the relevant Spanish Authorities.
Note: We regret we cannot accept photographs that do not meet these requirements
Please provide one recent photograph (not more than 6 months old) of yourself, which should not have been used
previously in the passport. The photograph should be in colour and:
- Two recent colour passports, size of photographs(45mm x 35mm) full face and taken against a white background so
that features are distinguishable and contrast against the background.
- It must be clear and show the face focused.
- Printed on normal photographic paper (camera print).
- Full face, non-smiling [without sunglasses, a hat/cap or other head covering, unless the applicant wears such
items because of their religious belief or ethnic background]
- Please stick the Photograph on the Visa Application Form.
