National Study Visa
Visa for stays exceeding 90 days for the following study programmes:
a) Higher education.
b) Post-compulsory secondary education.
c) Mobility programme for compulsory or post-compulsory secondary school students.
d) Volunteering.
e) Training activities: language assistants; Language Studies of Spanish or co-official languages; Preparatory courses for selective tests access to specialized health training; Qualification certifications or professional qualification; and professional certificates.
Study stays of less than 90 days do not require a study visa. Depending on the applicant's nationality, a short-stay visa may be required (see “Schengen visas").

Required documents
Official foreign documents must be legalized and, where applicable, must be submitted together with a sworn translation into Spanish.
1. National visa application form. Each applicant must complete and sign a visa application, filling in each of its sections. If the applicant is a minor, one of their parents or a duly accredited representative must sign the application.
2. Photograph. A recent, passport-size, colour photograph, taken against a light background, facing forward, without dark or reflective glasses, or any garments concealing the oval of the face.
3. Passport with a minimum validity of 1 year and containing two blank pages. Original and a photocopy of the page or pages of the passport that contain biometric data. Passports issued more than 10 years ago will not be accepted.
4. Proof of acceptance for the study, training or volunteer activity, indicating clearly start and end dates.

5. Proof of financial means. Original and a copy of the documents proving that the applicant (or their legal representative or the family member supporting them) has sufficient financial means to cover the tuition fees and the expenses of the student's stay and return. Apart from the tuition fees, the minimum required amount is equivalent to 100% of Spain's Public Multiple Effects Income Indicator (IPREM), currently 600 € per month. If proof is provided that accommodation for the entire stay has been paid for in advance, this amount will be deducted.
These means can be justified by one or more of the following documents:
6. Health insurance. Original and a copy of public or private health insurance policy contracted with an insurance company or institution authorized to operate in Spain. The insurance policy must cover all the risks insured by Spain's public health system and be totally exempted from any form of co-payment, reimbursement or waiting period. Travel insurances will not be accepted.
7. Criminal record check certificate. Applicants of legal age must submit the original and a copy of the criminal record check certificate(s) issued by their country or countries of residence for the past 5 years. This certificate must have been issued within the 3 months period before the visa application is submitted, unless the certificate itself specifies a longer expiration. Note that students, whose course/programme lasts less than 6 months, do not need to submit criminal record certificate.
8. Medical certificate. All applicants must submit original and a copy of a medical certificate accrediting that they do not suffer from any disease that could cause serious repercussions for public health pursuant to the 2005 International Health Regulations. This certificate must have been issued within the 3 months period before the visa application is submitted,
Note that students, whose course/programme lasts less than 6 months, do not need to submit criminal medical certificate.
9. Proof of residence in the consular district (Kenya, Uganda or Somalia). Persons of nationalities other than Kenyan, Ugandan or Somalian must submit a photocopy of their residence permit in one of these three countries.
10. Proof of the representative's identity and capacity. If the applicant is a minor, it will be necessary to submit copies of the identity document or passport of one of their parents, as well as of the document constituting proof of kinship.

12. Payment of the visa fee. Visa fee payment is compulsory and has to be made at the same time when submitting a visa application. The fee has to be paid in local currency and it is subject to regular changes due to the currency fluctuations. Please check the list of fees on the website of the Embassy of Spain.
Procedure
The Embassy of Spain (consular section) is competent to accept visa applications from individuals residing in the consular district.
Sworn translations and legalisations
Please check the list of sworn translators-interpreters on the website of the Embassy of Spain.
The legalization of documents shall include all the signatures of the signatures of the official documents. Final legalization of foreign documents is to be carried out at the Embassy of Spain. Legalization service is open on Thursdays from 9 AM to 1 PM and not subject to prior appointment. However if the applicant wishes to get legalized a high number of documents or if the legalization of documents is urgent, please contact emb.nairobi.vis@maec.es in advance. Also, please note that legalization of documents is subject to the payment of a fee. Please check the list of fees on the website of the Embassy of Spain.
Family members of students.
Relatives of the student can only apply for long-stay residence authorization, and therefore the corresponding visa can only be issued to relatives of individuals who are pursuing higher education in Spain or specialized health training. Family members will be able to apply for visa once the student has been granted their visa to Spain.
